Daniel Leon Johnson
Airman First Class Daniel Leon Johnson Joined the Air Force in 1961. After graduating AFTA Technical College in Texas, he was sent to Stewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee from 1961 to 1963. His Squadron, the 463rd Troop Carrier, left for Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. At Langley, he was a jet engine mechanic and was later a Supervisor in the jet engine department and was promoted to Wing Engine Manager for the facility. On August 4, 1964 the “hot team” which he was on left Langley. They landed in Japan and the team made several stops before landing in Naha, Okinawa where they set up a base to do maintenance on C130s. The C130s went back and forth to Vietnam and hauled the 82nd and 101st Airborne subject to go anywhere in the world at 1 1/2 hours notice.
